How did I get here?
1988 - The Les Paul for Dad: My uncle (Skip) finds my father a classic Les Paul that turned out to be a pretty unique one made in 1986. We all just loved how it looked, played and sounded.
1991 - My first guitar: This guitar was my world from 1993-1997. It’s the guitar I learned my style on. It’s small but it’s mighty!
1996 - the Blue Strat: (always a perpetual tinkerer) Skip and I started building my first custom guitar. This experience was nothing short of amazing and led me in a direction I never expected.
1993 - I start lessons: Jon Ferber and “Duke” Michalak taught me the ropes and I can’t thank them enough for all the pushing and prodding. It led me down a path I never would imagine just a few short years later.
2000 - The search: I went on a search for pickups that would eventually end on custom hand wound pickups made by Skip. It was memorizing watching pickups spin on such a simple machine. The sound…. Incredible! I was hooked and Blue never sounded better.
2006 - The start: I started to tinker with my own winding. Applying the lessons Skip had offered and using a simple converted mini lathe I was off to the races breaking fine magnet wire left and right. lessons were learned that would only harden my stance on building the best pickups I could ever come up with. Then came upgrades….
2015 - Goez Custom Pickups: I started to build pickup sets and people started to notice. After lots of user feedback it became apparent that I might be able to make this work and turn what was a hobby into a little side project business.
2024 - You’re now up to speed. Countless hours of perfecting some of my favorite sounds. I’m glad I now get to share these new guitar and bass set designs with you.
(each frame = 1 frame from a pickup testing session video I made and sent to someone over the last several years approx. 400 videos each video avg. 10 hours of testing = 4000 hrs or 167 days of testing just to make these various sets)
