The Lineup
Stratocaster sized pickups
Type 1 - 50’s era style with modern tweaks to make for a very forward sound presentation. This was a set that started by adapting a set of pickups wound up by my uncle.
Type 2 - 60’s era style with my custom tweaks to perfectly balance all strings. A natural compression gives them a great feel.
Type 3 - A twist on the type 1 set using Alnico 3 magnets for a brute force mid frequency bump. Awesome for Blues!
Type 4 - A custom set designed for my favorite Hardtail. It rides the line sonically between Type 1 and Type 2. Awesome and my personal favorite.
Type 5 - A HiFi modern set for guitars that need that extra boost. Very clean and clear and perfect for pushing pedals to do what they do best.
***All Stratocaster type and Telecaster type sets come in both Standard and Vintage Select variants.***
Telecaster sized pickups
Type 1 - Based on a genuine unicorn neck pickup and bridge pickup I wound to match. This is no ordinary “clone or replication” effort. It was a dream to finally make something that could comfortably keep up with a legend….
Type 2 - a 60’s era set based on some of the best reworked pickups from that era. This set is without a doubt one of the hardest working in show business.
Type 3 - An alnico 3 driven monster set. This set has been tested an tweaked for optimum blues inspired tones.
Type 4 - For this offset guitars with a P90 sized neck pickup and a Tele bridge pickup. I use my custom designed “P47” neck pickup that has huge clean tones and match it with my Type 1 bridge.
Humbucker sized pickups
Type 1 - A fantastic vintage inspired humbucker sound. Alnico 5 and plain enamel wire make for a fantastic well rounded set.
Type 2 - A modern take on the classic humbucker design. This one has some real clarity and punch.
Type 3 - An Alnico 3 driven mid-frequency pushed set that really punches above its weight.
P90 sized pickups
Type 1 - Vintage inspired rock and roll.
Type 2 - Modern clarity that works with so many guitars.
Precision Bass Pickups
Type 1 - Based on the earliest of pickup samples I could ever wish for. This is the fully balanced set that I could have ever asked for. Vintage soul with the added flexibility needed for today’s players.
Type 2 - Using the mid 60’s bass my uncle owned as a guiding star then comparing the best of the 70’s I’ve created something special to give a well rounded open sounding precise tone.
4 and 5 String Jazz Pickups
Type 1 - Vintage inspired tones that are at home equally in a passive or active environment. Perfect balance and lovely low end.
*works with Passive and Active preamps
Type 2 - Modern clarity and quite possibly the most well rounded tones I could come up with.
*works with Passive and Active preamps
Standard vs. Vintage Select
Standard
These sets use clean new magnets with my hand assembled bobbins. I take the bobbins and work to make sure sharp edges are filed down then wind them by hand with a guide in ensure they meet the standard for each type.
Vintage Select
Aged magnets taking on the look of some of my favorite vintage pickups. The bobbin gets more work to round off the edges to help create an even fully free hand wound pickup. This slows down the winding process taking more time and precision. I also treat the magnets differently in the charging process. The result is as close as I can come to offering the vintage experience. Simply the best I can offer.
I wanted to be able to offer great sounds at a lower price tag than my fully treated pickup sets. Not wanting to cut corners on the lower priced option, I broke down the process to see where I could save on time and complexity. The result is the Standard series pickup. I’m really happy with the sonic result and feel that both the Standard and Vintage Select styles have a place together.
